About the Therapist

Originally trained as a teacher, my experience over the years has included working as a trainer, group facilitator, counsellor and psychotherapist. In the mid seventies my search for deeper meaning brought me to the Human Potential Movement, which had a big impact upon the direction of my life. Since then my journey has taken me down many pathways. I have been greatly influenced by the ideas of Carl Jung, the Voice Dialogue work of Hal & Sidra Stone and by a number of spiritual approaches, particularly Buddhism, tantra yoga, shamanism, the Sufi Path and the work of G. I. Gurdjieff.

Types of Issues worked with:

  • Depression
  • Emotional Difficulties
  • Childhood & Adult Abuse
  • Attachment & Developmental Issues
  • Bereavement & Loss
  • Eating Disorders
  • Relationship Issues
  • Anxiety & Stress
  • Low Self Esteem
  • Existential Crises related to Meaning and Purpose
  • Life Direction and Dealing with Change

Experience
I have extensive experience of working with clients presenting with a wide range of issues within a brief-term framework and also in providing medium to long-term psychotherapy. My experience includes working as a therapist with survivors of physical, emotional and sexual abuse for the National Counselling Service in Dublin. I have also provided brief-term therapy in GP surgeries and for many years have worked as an affiliate counsellor for a number of Employee Assistance Programmes, which entailed supporting clients in dealing with work-related stress and other emotional difficulties.

My particular area of interest is in working with clients experiencing major life transitions which precipitate a crisis of meaning and purpose. I view my role as being like that of a guide who has travelled the terrain and can accompany and support the client on their inner journey.
